While exploring recently, I came across this lovely film, which reminded me of the famous song of the same name. As you can see, I thought the movie was fantastic, and I’m going to talk about it here.
It is a film about old friends and how they support one another when they are in trouble. Sounds very light and dull, don’t you think? Let me give you a general overview of the storyline. In a flashback, the late-30s-old male protagonist and narrator of the film transports you to the summer of 1959. It demonstrates what occurs when four 12-year-old boys from a very tiny village venture into a remote forest alone with the intent of finding a dead body of a boy who was reported missing. Not quite what you’d anticipate, would you say? Strange plot.
What I liked about this movie:
- How naturally the child actors interact, makes you forget that it’s a movie.
- The conversations between two characters in particular show unexpected depth and timelessness, and resonate with both the child and adult inside you.
- All four characters are shown to be struggling with various relatable issues in their family; the death of a loved one, neglect by parents, having an abusive father, facing societal boycott, and bullying, to name a few.
- How these friends spend time with each other, quarrel but also bond eventually.
- How they face problems that arise on their adventure.
- How open communication with someone can untangle the tightening knot of mental turmoil choking that person from the inside.
Take home message that I noted:
Being vulnerable and in trouble is alright and accepting your weakness and problems can pave the way to building up your strengths.
Watch this one if you:
– are looking for a movie with substance
– are bored of entertainment
– are parents
– like child actors as main characters
